I'd like a bit more detail before signing up.

That's great, the guide below will help you understand how the platform works so you and your pupils can get the most out of your subscription.

1. To get a feel for the platform before starting a 7-day free trial you can try our demo tests so you can see how our 3-stage testing process test-practice-retest works.

  • Complete the initial test (make sure you get some questions wrong so we can show you the full 3-stage process).
  • View the questions you got wrong and their explanations, then try the similar practice questions.
  • Complete the retest (again make sure you get some questions wrong so we can show you our reports). Before you complete the retest you will be given the initial test for test 2, this is because when working through the tests your pupils will wait a varied amount time before they complete the retest, depending on their progress. This is done to ensure we test their long-term understanding not their short-term memory. While waiting for the retest they will be able to take other initial tests.
  • The process ends with your report which shows the type of questions the pupil is still struggling with.

This 4 minute video teacherial explains how the adaptive tests work.

2. When you're ready to start your free trial go to our online shop.

Note: Make a note of the username and password that you have created for both your school and pupil accounts. Your school account enables you to manage your trial subscription and monitor your pupils' progress. The pupil account provides access to the tests. No purchases can be made from pupil accounts.

  • Use the sliders to select the number of pupils and the free trial option then click the start free trial button.
  • On the registration page enter your name and email address and select a payment option. You have the option to set an end date prior to any payments leaving your account during the next step. Don't forget to make a note of your password. Your email address will be used as your username.
  • Next you will confirm your order by completing your address. You can also select whether you would like to continue indefinitely with a monthly subscription when the trial ends, or set an end date for your subscription. This could be the last date of your trial to prevent any payments leaving your account.
  • On the next page choose your payment method to complete your free trial purchase.
  • You will now create an account for your pupil(s) from which they can access the tests during your free trial. Their username(s) must be unique to the BOFA system, it could be an email address or a combination of their name and your school name. So we can start the pupil at an appropriate level please enter their date of birth. We recommend using the AI Adaptive tests (option 1) as this monitors your pupil's progress and adapts to their needs. By entering their exam date we can create a bespoke test schedule to ensure they are fully prepared for their exams. Set the training period end date to the free trial end date. We recommend letting the system determine the start level, but if your pupil is very weak in one subject you may like to start them off on a low level. Once you have completed the form click.

3. You're ready to go. Give the username and password to your pupil so they can log on and start doing the tests.

4. We hope you and your pupils enjoy your free trial and see the benefits of using BOFAmaths to support your teaching and prepare for GCSE maths exams.

This is how schools are using our cutting-edge learning system.

LESSON 1:

1. With their teacher, pupils log on to:
- Complete a short demo test either by subject strand or by level
- Get a taste of all the stages of the Planet BOFA platform

2. Automatic marking returns:
- Simple explanations paired with any incorrect answers
- Tailored practice questions around these weaker areas, which the pupil completes

3. Pupils now take the bespoke 'retest' in the same subject:
- It has a laser focus on the areas already identified for development

4. View the instant end of test report, presenting:
- Questions they didn't get right, with answers and explanations, organised into topics

Good to know: The teacher and parent both receive the instant report by email, with the score and time spent (unless the parent has been opted out of notifications).

LESSON 1: HOMEWORK

Teachers set:
The first full-length test. Pupils complete only the initial part at home. The ensuing practice questions are done in the classroom during lesson 2.

LESSON 2 ONWARDS:

1. Teachers go through the tailored practice questions that have been produced from the full-length test done as homework.

2. They also go over the initial questions from that test that were answered incorrectly.

LESSON 2 ONWARDS: HOMEWORK

Teachers set:
1. The retest from Lesson 2 (thereby finishing that test cycle).
2. A new full-length test, probably in a new subject. Pupils complete only the initial part at home. The ensuing practice questions can be completed in the classroom, where the tailored practice plus bespoke retest cycle will begin again.

ALTERNATIVELY:

  • You may choose to provide BOFAmaths as a homework tool for pupils to use in their own time.
  • Some schools choose to use BOFAmaths in lunchtime or after school revision clubs.
  • Take a free trial to see how BOFAmaths can work for you.

OUR TIPS

A report is emailed when each retest is complete. It signals the end of each individual test cycle.

Report data can be viewed individually, across a form group or year group, and exported in a click. It's organised into topics to make a 'pot of gold' for teachers – a brilliant resource that enables efficient teaching of the weaker areas in class. For example it helps teachers sort pupils into small working groups to focus on specific topics.

You can create individual teacher accounts linked to your school account for all your teachers so they can monitor their pupils' progress.

Below are some useful video tutorials to help you get started.
